Scholars on educational tour at LEC Head Office – Maseru
Mohlanapeng High School Grade 11 students’ faces beam with ecstasy as they visit the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) in September 2025. On this tour, the learners learned of the importance of using electricity as an essential commodity.
The two employees of LEC who happened to be the scholars’ tour guides for the day, Messrs Mpholo and Mothebe who were on site during the visitation put emphasis on safety of the electrical equipment and gadgets. The two LEC Team Leaders in Central A region advised students to take advantage of the moment, saying the tour was meant to raise awareness of the use of electricity.
They further highlighted the importance of electricity and its equipment, indicating legalities facing distortion, illegal connections, theft of electrical material and risks imposed by such malice and how such actions negatively affect the national power supply and grid lines thereby imposing danger.
Mr. Leluma Nkuebe, the Physical Science teacher, noted that the students will surely come back more enlightened as they return to school because not only have, they been taught in class, but now they have taste and feel about what electricity is and how it works. “Having come here at LEC has brought joy on my students and now they can see for themselves of how electricity works, what they have seen they’ll remember even as they sit for examinations. I thank LEC for opening its doors for us.” said the teacher.
On behalf of the students, Tlotlisang Lekhanya and Khatsinyane Montši both highlighted the significance of witnessing for themselves equipment such as transformers and power cables. They further said it was an honour for them to hold such electrical equipment live, from the tour made possible by LEC noting how it would directly benefit them and their fellow colleagues.
Meanwhile, it was evident from their numerous questions, which were informative and educative in nature that the students were happy to have received the enlightening information.
On a brighter note, both students shared how heartwarming it was to also have first-hand experience and feel of the visit, not forgetting the technical jargon and terminologies learned on this visit.
LEC continues to warn the public to refrain from vandalizing its equipment. In any case of vandalism, please report such occurrences at: LEC Call Center on 80022000 (TOLL FREE) AND/OR WhatsApp: (+266) 62274000.
