The Right Honorable Prime Minister (PM) Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane, through the Rural Electrification Unit (REU) under the Ministry of Energy has launched a major power extension project in Mantšonyane, Thaba-Tseka.

The launch was on August 4, 2025, and the project is expected to take eight months to complete and will leave the four villages of Au Plaas, Ha Ntsokoane, Ha Chooko and Tlapa-le-tšotso in Mantšonyane electrified after project completion.

The project is estimated to cost around M19 Million and aims at electrifying rural based households with infrastructural development. This will enable communities with the much-needed services and better access to other equally important services, such as technology. Additionally, to further underscore the importance of the project, the selected contractor was officially introduced, marking the significance of the project.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has ordered the Ministry of Energy to reimburse all the contributions to the villagers that were made prior to the launch, that were meant to form part of their payments towards the service.

Each household contributed M500.00 and will now be used for other developmental activities within their respective four villages.
