The Lesotho Electricity Company,  proudly participated in the Sport Against Crime campaign held during the Easter holidays in Bloemfontein. This was alongside regional stakeholders including Eswatini Electricity Company, CENTLEC, SAPS units, local social clubs  and teams.

In recognition of the vital role sport plays in building discipline, teamwork, and resilience, the aim of the campaign was to promote positive lifestyles while discouraging criminal behavior. It further addressed challenges such as substance abuse, gangsterism, gender-based violence and youth involvement in crime by encouraging participation in constructive sporting activities.

The initiative demonstrated LEC’s  commitment to fighting crime, and with the assistance from the management by  financially contributing towards travel costs, the event enabled employee participation in this impactful campaign.

Engaging in sports  is crucial and regular participation contributes to mental wellness by enhancing cognitive functions and concentration.

Sports play a vital role in promoting physical health, mental well-being and social skills, making the games essential for personal development and community cohesion.

Speaking on behalf of the Sports and Entertainment Committee, the Secretary General Ms ‘Mamolibeli Qoane said sports unite people in a way that is meaningful, bringing out positive results such as oneness. She further said the significance of sports and games extends far beyond entertainment, and that they are essential for also fostering a healthy lifestyle. “Sports are a cornerstone; they enhance mental well-being and develop critical social skills”.

Through active engagement in football, netball, pool, darts, and chess, we reinforced the values of teamwork and unity. The local community and children showed remarkable enthusiasm, attending in large numbers and taking keen interest in the activities.

Our teams delivered outstanding performances, securing  Gold in Pool, Silver in Netball and Soccer sporting codes respectively. Thus, a demonstration of a true reflection of unity, resilience, and commitment both on and off the field
